Ernesto Shikhani is a Mozambican artist contemporary of Malangatana with whom he maintained a deep and lasting friendship. Shikhani is represented in the Caixa Geral de Depósitos art collection with a group of works, which include sculpture and acrylic paintings (1990 to 2001).  One of the works in the collection, an untitled acrylic work on paper, is quite explanatory of his successive attempts at painting as an expression of matter; the use of the spatula in the application of thick and wide chromatic layers is a distinctive trait of the artist’s use of this type of technique.

Adelaide Ginga will curate an exhibition showcasing works by Union of Portuguese Speaking Capitals Cities (UCCLA) artists represented in Portuguese collections organized by the UCCLA. Shikhani’s painting mentioned above is one of the four works on loan from the CGD collection.
