ABOUT CULTURGEST

Culturgest – Fundação Caixa Geral de Depósitos is an arts centre based in Lisbon, dedicated to contemporary creation, with a regular programme encompassing performing arts, music, visual arts, cinema and contemporary thought. Culturgest also operates in Porto, where it presents small-scale exhibitions.

ABOUT THIS COLLABORATION

Culturgest intends to establish an external advisory collaboration with a professional who, in coordination with the Artistic Direction, will be responsible for the visual arts programming and the exhibition curatorship.

This collaboration will include the development of curatorial proposals, external follow-up of Culturgest exhibitions and their associated publications, as well as aiding in preparing and justifying acquisition proposals for the Caixa Geral de Depósitos Collection, in coordination with the Acquisitions Committee.

 
ACTIVITIES TO BE DEVELOPED

The services to be provided will include:

PROGRAMMING AND CURATORSHIP
  • Design and development of Culturgest's visual arts programme in Lisbon and Porto.
  • Project development and exhibition curation.
  • Follow-up of projects, in dialogue with artists and technical teams.
  • Conception and follow-up of publications.
  • Writing of informative texts and critical essays for exhibition-related publications.
  • Participation in public talks and guided tours of the exhibitions.
  • Suggestion of titles to be sold at the Culturgest bookshop.
CAIXA GERAL DE DEPÓSITOS COLLECTION
  • Identification of artists and works to be submitted to the Acquisitions Committee for consideration.
  • Writing of curatorial notes or dossiers relating to submitted proposals.
RELATIONSHIP WITH THE SECTOR
  • Regular interaction with artists, curators, institutions and professional networks, both nationally and internationally.
  • Participation in professional meetings or visits relevant to the projects being developed.
DESIRED PROFILE

Applicants should preferably meet the following requirements:

  • Proven experience in curatorship or artistic direction in the field of contemporary visual arts.
  • In-depth knowledge of the national and international art scenes.
  • Strong research, conceptual and critical writing skills.
  • Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with internal and external teams.
  • Fluency in Portuguese and English (spoken and written); additional languages will be considered an asset.
  • Strong organisational skills, autonomy and ability to manage one’s own workload.
  • Availability for occasional travel and research trips.
CONDITIONS

Type of collaboration: provision of services for a monthly fee.
Remuneration available upon request via culturgest.rh@cgd.pt.
Applicants must be available for interviews on 2 and 3 March 2026.
Expected start date: 1 April 2026 (negotiable).
