Ecofeminism

Yayo Herrero

Using the multiple languages available in a choreographic piece, Triste in English from Spanish links together women’s experiences, the way in which we generate social systems and the environment. An ecological perspective enables us to take this reflection further and to enter into possible new relationships – between one another and with the environment. Yayo Herrero, a researcher in the field of social ecology, talks about ecofeminism and such issues as looking after the land and human life, environmentally aware consumption, social inclusion, and economic and social models that are compatible with the regenerative movement of nature.

Yayo Herrero (Madrid, 1965) is an anthropologist, a social educator and an agricultural engineer. She is a UNESCO Professor in Environmental Education and Sustainable Development (UNED) and a founder member of the Garúa Cooperative (Knowledge and Projects for Change), as well as the co-author of more than twenty books and articles relating to the interdisciplinary field of social ecology. She was also the coordinator of the Spanish group Ecologistas en Acción (Ecologists in Action) from 2005 to 2014.
