Fatamorgana

Curator: Delfim Sardo

One of the most important artists belonging to the new generation of Portuguese filmmakers, Salomé Lamas (1987) will present a new work at Culturgest Porto – a film-based installation that continues the Fatamorgana project presented for the first time in a theatrical version at the BoCA Festival in 2016.

Shown for the first time, the film is a complex video installation, projected in two channels, accompanied by a second web of narratives in five channels, as well as a sound installation. Filmed in Beirut, it is based on the story of a woman, Hanan, and guides us through the historical and cultural complexity of Lebanon, through the contradictions between the country’s display of great sophistication and its standing on the threshold of barbarity, highlighting the impossibility of ever achieving a synthetic and simple vision.

An even larger and expanded example of Salomé Lamas’ film, Fatamorgana benefited from the collaboration of the António Cachola Collection, which owns the installation version that is now being shown.
