MÃO MORTA

Viva la Muerte!

This year we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April revolution and the 40th of Mão Morta. Round numbers that are connected with one another, that without the carnations revolution, the band from Braga as we know it would never have existed. Without the space of freedom, this voice could not have told us what it said, nor could it have released many of their albums, or been an agitator in our culture. But despite half a century of democracy, it is urgent to keep the pulse on reality, and monitor speeches and movements that suggest regressions to the days we live in. It is in the midst of this danger that lurks around every corner, that Mão Morta wants to return to being sentinels of freedom, creating their new work based on some of the greatest references from our protesting past: Zeca, Zé Mário, Adriano, or Ary, reveal themselves in a male choir as a direct symbolism to the anthem of Grândola Vila Morena. In the celebration of Mão Morta's 40th anniversary, their social and political concerns continue to be the same, music will once again be born from this pressing matter, the need to seek new paths, challenges, and also difficulties, until the ultimate consequences. Ultimately, with each new work, we find a new chapter of our freedom and of theirs.
