Albano Jerónimo, Cláudia Lucas Chéu
Based on Yukio Mishima’s My Friend Hitler, O Meu Amigo H. examines three close relationships of the German dictator – with capitalist Gustav Krupp, trade unionist Gregor Strasser, and military officer Ernst Röhm.
Adapting Mishima’s play, Albano Jerónimo and Cláudia Lucas Chéu put historical context and Nazi imagery to the side, and focus on the spectre of intolerance and resentment that once again manifests in democracies. At our time, bringing to the stage this cruel, dubious play, intoxicated as it is by the poetry of violence and death, becomes an opportunity to ponder destruction, restricted liberty, the settling of scores, and nostalgia for pasts unfulfilled. Mishima puts us before a mirror that reveals itself a terrifying kaleidoscope, a kind of social, political and human fresco.
