Danças com Vida Própria
Danças com Vida Própria
Moderation: Liliana Coutinho
On the occasion of the presentation of the new creation NÔT, by Cape Verdean choreographer Marlene Monteiro Freitas, a publication is launched around the artist's work, authored by Alexandra Balona, under the Orfeu Negro label.
Based on a series of dialogues with the artist and on a theoretical and artistic investigation, the book focuses on five of her most iconic choreographies — Guintche (2010); Paradise – private collection (2012); Jaguar (2015); Bacantes – prelude to a purge (2017) and Mal – divine drunkenness (2020) — illuminating the most prominent references and choreographic strategies that underline the dizzying and disturbing complexity of Marlene Monteiro Freitas’ choreographic work. The conversation will be attended by the choreographer, curator and researcher Alexandra Balona and by Gabriele Brandstetter, Professor of Dance and Theatre Studies from the Free University of Berlin.
