Francisco Thiago Cavalcanti & um cavalo disse mamãe
Eight people embark on a great journey on foot. They are part of the same family or a caravan of traveling performers on tour or a pod of whales making the crossing from the coasts of the Colombian Pacific to the cold waters of Antarctica. We do not know where they came from or where they are going. They travel to avoid the announced catastrophe. And they sing.
They sing to ward off their ills, to find relief. They sing to escape death. They sing because they do not know what to say or because singing is the best way to express all they have to say. They sing like Gal Costa in the album Cantar (Sing), released in 1974, at the height of the military dictatorship in Brazil. A song that is a cry for freedom, in times of wars, religious intolerance, and extreme violence, where societies and their States rehearse a return to authoritarian policies, silencing, and deaths. They sing as a form of resistance. They sing even if the structures shake, the circus loses its tent, the sea invades the cities, or humanity forgets how to love.
According to Greek mythology, on the star Tau Ceti (in the constellation Cetus), 12 light-years from Earth, there exists a miraculous remedy capable of curing humans of sadness. Perhaps that’s where they are headed.
