2025 will mark 80 years since the birth of artist Luisa Correia Pereira (1945 – 2009). The sobriety of the National Pantheon contrasts with the delirious engravings that the artist developed between 1971 and 1974. Freeing herself from material constraints, “to make greater use of the possibilities of expression”, the artist reveals great mastery in printing techniques: grattage, monotype, wood engraving, etching, and aquatint. Her graphic work, with its growing vitality, reflects an unusual freedom of creation and imagination in the shapes, colours, and narratives it represents. Using graphic and pictorial elements, the artist reveals the exaltation of the spirit, hallucination, contagious enthusiasm, and the celebration of life, through her own alphabet and language.
