Following her passionate and impetuous life with Pega Monstro, Maria Reis’ solo career is now undergoing a rapid transformation. Her music seems to celebrate this change in real time, being caught between the irreverence of youthful discoveries and disappointments and the serenity and lucidity of an adult life constrained by responsibilities. Chove na sala, água nos olhos brings us both the merriment and revelry of pop music, with highly poignant and catchy songs, and the weaving of delicate acoustic threads that surprisingly reshape all of her musical writing. A near miracle that frames this fundamental moment in her musical life and, at the same time, leaves us one of the most praised albums on the lists of the best of 2019.
And what we commemorate on this day, in a special concert, is precisely the convergence of these two paths, like two sides of the same coin: on stage, a band shows us the vigour and energy of Maria Reis’ pop songs and a classical ensemble reveals how everything can be (re)created again, both for her and for us.
