MATER
MATER
Curated by: Sara Castelo Branco
The matrix is a vital space from which something is generated, relating to a uterine order present at the root of the elements. From this matrix dimension, the MATER exhibition addresses the matrix as a weaving force between practices and objects. The participating artists continue their practice in intersection with the MIAA and the territory of Abrantes, developing work on communities, the natural and built environment, the plural manifestations of art history, and the activation of popular knowledge. The starting point of the residency is the expanded idea of the concept of matrix in intersection with the trans-temporal and operative nature of the Museum's pieces and the notion of place as a cultural construction. The matrix emerges, therefore here, as a seed-impulse to address various possibilities of creation and transformation and, especially, to understand a telluric sense based on the material and immaterial culture of Abrantes.
