RECLAIMING HERMES: CONSPIRACY IN THE DIGITAL ERA

Moderation: António Guerreiro

Frédéric Neyrat is a French philosopher who has research work in the area of environmental and planetary humanities. In this conference, he interprets the current proliferation of conspiracy theories like the ill expression of an unsatisfied desire for communication. A ecting everything, this dissatisfaction can be explained as follows: the communication machine-to-machine anticipates, formats, and thus impoverishes the possibilities of human dialog. It’s time to reappropriate the capacity to communicate, that is, the ability to imagine not only the world we want, but even more, the means of refusing the world we do not want. Hermes, the god of communication, must become our ally again – and no longer merely the obscure emissary of social networks.
