HERE, IN THE UNIVERSE

HERE, IN THE UNIVERSE

The remnants of ancient civilizations offer evidence that natural phenomena in the sky – the stars, the movement of planets, comet sightings – inspired questions that we now know come from way back. Scientific knowledge dispelled some of those concerns, but on the other hand it brought new challenges. Over four panel discussions from January through April, our guests will try to build bridges connecting different ways of understanding the Earth and its place in the Universe while looking at the mutuality between the human species and the Earth, and Earth and the Cosmos. Bringing together researchers and thinkers, Culturgest and Instituto de Astrofísica e Ciências do Espaço (IA)  promote a dialogue that unites scientific culture, human concerns, and human disturbances. The cycle includes the conferences Earth as Seen from Other Planets, with Pedro Machado and Ricardo Trigo (January 30th), Excess of Light, with Raul Cerveira Lima and Martin Pawley (February 20th), Beyond Light, with Lara Sousa and Sofia Andringa (March 26th), and Ethnoastronomy (April 30th).
