Exhibition – The Sound of Snow

Curator: Delfim Sardo

Michael Snow (Toronto, Canada, 1928) is one of the most fascinating contemporary artists. Having followed a path that has taken him through the full range of visual arts – from painting to sculpture, drawing, photography, film and video – his artistic practice also extends into improvised music (with countless recordings already available), sound installation and cinema.

The exhibition The Sound of Snow presents Michael Snow's film, video and sound work. Despite resulting in creations that proved to be of major importance in the development of experimental film, Michael Snow's pioneering work has never been afforded appropriate coverage in Portugal. Most significantly, what has never been presented is the extremely important connection between sound and image that Snow has been developing, sometimes expanding into music, in a relationship that combines enormous sophistication, subtle humour and great creative freedom.

Rameau's Nephew by Diderot (Thanx to Dennis Young) by Wilma Schoen, 1974, still do filme.
