Taking advantage of the presence of one of the authors of Sónia Almeida's exhibition catalogue, Gloria Sutton, in Lisbon, Culturgest will be promoting a conversation between the artist and this eminent North American academic. Gloria Sutton is Professor of New Media and Contemporary Art History at Northeastern University, in Boston, USA. Her research has focused on how new media have influenced the reception of visual arts from the 1960s onwards. Expanding on her essay for the catalogue, Sutton will bring to this conversation a perspective that seeks to unravel the different responses that Almeida's work offers to the challenges that the current prevalence of digital media poses to the experience of images in general, and of painting in particular.
