On 29 September 2007, Bernardo Sassetti walked onto the stage in the Main Auditorium at Culturgest for a concert tingling with the excitement that a celebration necessarily calls for. His trio with Carlos Barretto and Alexandre Frazão were celebrating the tenth anniversary of their shared lives together and this event also served to underline the fantastic regularity and longevity of this band’s presence in the world of Portuguese jazz. It was therefore no surprise that this turned out to be a memorable concert, on a night when it was clear that, besides the musical skills that each of the band’s members displayed, it was the chemistry and understanding between the three musicians that brought them close to perfection. Before the concert, Sassetti had already confessed his "admiration for the restlessness and spontaneity” of Barretto’s double-bass, while also praising Frazão’s "inability to be ordinary and banal” on the drums. Fourteen years later, we recover the memory of this concert in order to celebrate with pride Clean Feed’s release of the album Live at Culturgest. On stage, Barretto and Frazão will be accompanied by João Paulo Esteves da Silva, so that, as a trio, they can remember and remind us of Sassetti’s music and the reason why we are all here together in this room.
