Lisbon's role during the Second World War was reflected in history books and more visibly in cinema. Eugen Schüfftan (1893-1977) was one of many characters in the fugitive stories of that time, escaping Nazi Germany, with the United States as his final destination. He left behind the film Metropolis, by Fritz Lang, where he was director of photography, and during a short stay in the Portuguese capital, he would leave a glimpse of the city on film. In 2023, Daniel Blaufuks made a short film from these images, then in 2025 for this project with a new and expanded version, he slowed down this unknown day in 1940 again, inviting us to live it and feel its rhythm, altering its time and ours. It is also from the film Daquele Dia em Lisboa (That Day in Lisbon) that the English musician Matthew Herbert finds inspiration for an original soundtrack, making music on the streets and people who anonymously served as ghostly guides for freedom.
