“A very affectionate homage by a Portuguese guitarist to the status that José Afonso’s musical work enjoys in the national popular culture more than thirty years after his disappearance. The power of José Afonso’s songs is not limited to their words. His music is simultaneously simple, direct and intensely poignant. Presented here are versions for the guitar – the instrument that Zeca used to compose his music and to accompany himself when singing. I also have the privilege of embarking on this musical journey with my dear friend and great percussionist José Salgueiro.”
Pedro Jóia, a leading reference in the Portuguese guitar world, presents a repertoire that is based on some of the best Portuguese music produced in the twentieth century, in which he demonstrates all of his technique and musical sensitivity.

On 26 June 2021, at two concerts in Culturgest’s Main Auditorium, Pedro Jóia will be presenting his most recent work “Zeca”, as well as guitar versions of emblematic works by such diverse composers as Armandinho and Carlos Paredes, besides some of his own music.

In this concert sponsored by Caixa Geral, produced by UGURU and supported by Antena 1, Pedro Jóia will be performing in a duo, accompanied by the percussionist, José Salgueiro.
