Ancestral Future: a talk to postpone the end of the world.

Ailton Krenak

Moderation: Dirk Michael Hennrich

Ailton Krenak, writer, activist and indigenous leader of the Knenak land in the Doce River valley region, is one of the most prominent voices of today's social and environmental movement. His philosophy juxtaposes the wisdom of the original peoples with the desolation of a predatory civilization in dire straits, and calls for a new world to be created. His most recent books, Ideas to Postpone the End of the World (2019), Life is not useful (2020) and Ancestral Future (2022), published by Ed. Companhia das Letras, are contributions to this new world and are a result of his unrelenting devotion to ageless oraly transmited knowledge. In this conversation we adress the notion of the Ancestral Future. A future that will postpone the end of the world, without continuing to go on as we live today.

The documentary “8 Bilhões: Somos todos responsáveis” (2022), a conversation with Ailton Krenak directed by Andrea Yuri Flores Urushima, Cesar Shundi Iwamuzu and Nelson Kao Wei Chin, will be shown at the beginning of this meeting.
