Unanimously cherished by those who worked or studied with him, or who simply came across him in a theater, Gil Mendo dedicated his life to the performing arts, to its transmission and to its makers. Gil Mendo was himself a condition of possibility for the emergence and affirmation of new artistic languages ​​in Portugal, and for the heterogeneous community that built and continues to build them. In his discreet and indelible way, Mendo left us with precious knowledge, complicity and a way of being - and taking risks - with others, a legacy that we want to honor and celebrate.

The contemporary dance community in Portugal is organizing an event to celebrate the legacy of Gil Mendo (1946 - 2022), which includes a marathon of small performances at Culturgest, among other activities.

The performances can be (excerpts from) pre-existing works, new works or improvisations, in any format (dance, theater, music, performance, spoken word, disciplinary crossings...), with a maximum duration of 7 (seven) minutes. Videos made exclusively for the occasion can be considered, especially for the ones who cannot be present at the event.

The marathon will take place on March 25th, 2023, at the Auditorium Emílio Rui Vilar.
