Enzo Cucchi

Mezzocane

Curator: Bruno Marchand

Enzo Cucchi is one of the most defining international artists of the last five decades. His name will forever be linked to the term Transavanguardia, a neologism in which curator Achile Bonito Oliva baptised the neo-expressionist art that emerged in Italy at the beginning of the 1980s. Cucchi was one of the unavoidable references of this movement and the relevance of his proposals earned him a solo exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum in New York in 1986 when he was just 36 years old. That this relevance remains today is a faithful testimony to the uniqueness of his work and how fertile his territory remains nowadays. Mezzocane brings together a wide selection of paintings, sculptures, and drawings that Cucchi created over the last two decades. Its distribution in space resembles a score: empty spaces are silences of a polyphonic and operatic composition.
